SDCC 2017: Supernatural Panel Crushes Fans with Live Kansas Performance

SDCC 2017 Warner Bros Supernatural Panel Kansas LIVE
For a fan of Supernatural, you can't help the chills that come every time they do their season ender re-cap and play the awesome rock anthem by Kansas, "Carry On Wayward Son". CHILLS.EVERY.TIME. Welp, as the show creators and fans consider the finale of Supernatural in 2018, and what that might bring, Warner Bros thought they might create a special moment with the whole family all in one place at Comic-Con.

Supernatural’s annual Comic-Con panel in Hall H started with a custom video recorded by stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as their characters, Sam and Dean Winchester. The humorous tribute to Supernatural fans was immediately followed by a surprise live performance by KANSAS, accompanied by a 12-season video retrospective of the hit show projected on giant, high-resolution screens surrounding the perimeter of the massive hall. Once the band finished their iconic song, panel moderators (and recurring fan-favorite Supernatural guest stars) Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr. took the stage to introduce series stars Ackles, Padalecki and Misha Collins, along with executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb.

Thanks to Supernatural4Ever for the vid!!

I can only imagine what it was like when the opening words of the song were sung and the audience realized it was happening live...right NOW.

First used by Supernatural in the opening montage of the season one finale in 2006, “Carry On Wayward Son” has since been used in every season finale episode that depicts “The Road So Far” (i.e. the Winchesters’ wayward journey). The song was also used as the centerpiece of the series’ 200th episode (in which an all-girls high school performs “Supernatural: The Musical!”).

Supernatural returns for its 13th season on Thursday, October 12, in its new time period (8/7c) on The CW.
